We chose the Copthorne because the name has always been synonymous with excellence but unfortunately not so anymore. The bedrooms are fine but the bathrooms are in need of a good refurbishment. They are tired and rather shabby. The service in the restaurant really disappointed us. We were told last orders for food was 9 and arrived in plenty of time. Our order was taken but the food took a long time to arrive, close to 45 minutes. We were then left with our plates needing to be cleared for another half hour while the waiter set up for breakfast. We called him over when we caught his eye to ask for the dessert menu. However we were told the kitchen was closed and we couldn’t have it. We asked him to check with the chef which he did but the chef said no. I have worked in hospitality for many years and would never have shut the kitchen without checking if the guests left in the restaurant wanted a dessert.
The car park situation is odd- we paid for two days but were told if you leave and there’s no room when you get back there’s nothing you can do. Surely when you pay for something up front, as the expect you to, you should get what you pay for.
On the positive, the reception staff were lovely- Kerry ( I think I recall that correctly) was really helpful. Overall a disappointing stay.
