”The room was adequate, dated and clean but not a deep clean due to the age. The breakfast nook was the worst I have ever walked into. It was dirty and the appliances were dirty. I got a sealed yougart and left. From what I could tell the quality of the food was very low.”

”Every staff member that we encountered went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. The water bottles on check in and rice Krispies for the kids on check out definitely made for huge smiles. My only complaints would be that breakfast was cold and dry on our first morning and the pool was cold.”

”The staff were very friendly and helpful, my son loved the pool and we enjoyed the hot tub. Waffles, sausage, eggs and others for breakfast, we couldn't have had a better stay!”

”There was No actual employee in the building the entire time we were there. It was a computer that we had to check in on. People hanging around the building all hours of the night. Don’t even think they were staying there. Breakfast area was so disgusting, trash everywhere, milk sitting on ledge outside the kitchen. Sheets had stains and smelled like urine. Went to a different hotel the rest of our stay! Gross!”

”I initially was put in a room that had a tub faucet that would not shut off once I turned it on there was no phone in the room couldn’t get the refrigerator door open, but they did switch me to another room and it was much better”

”The facility was wonderful however the front desk staff was not. We were first told we did not have a room and then had to find someone to help her. Not professional at all! The pool was out of towels I asked the same front desk person for a towel she begrudgingly got one for me but added "we have a towel shortage". Front desk staff in need of customer service training both in behavior and appearance!”

”We always stay at the Gateway Hotel when visiting Ames. The location is right off highway 30 and close to ISU. We appreciate that they’re dog friendly and only charge $50 per stay, up to one week. This last stay we were disappointed that the coffee offered in the lobby was empty both mornings and it seemed the lady at the desk could not be bothered to make more. The breakfast buffet is NOT included with your stay and ,in my opinion, is not worth the cost. Go across the road to The Filling...

”Breakfast, staff, clean room”

”We travelled to Iowa for a weekend stay. All 4 of us loved the convenient location. Breakfast included was a big plus. Staff was great and hotel was clean”

”The room was clean and quiet. I had an excellent night's sleep. Breakfast was fairly standard; hard boiled eggs, cereal, make your own waffle, juice, yogurt etc. The staff did an excellent job replenishing food and cleaning the Breakfast area.”

”Had bugs in the room, staff was not friendly at check in, she acted like I was bothering her for coming in. In the morning I left the keys in the room and my daughter left her phone so had to go to desk and get a new key … nobody was manning the desk. I waited 25 minutes, ringing the bell, calling the desk nobody around, yelled “does anyone work here” I finally had to walk down the hall to breakfast room and yelled for someone in there for a key. ”TVs did not work in either room. Manager said to contact you do we could get a partial refund.”

”We were first given keys to an occupied room. They upgraded our room for the inconvenience but I didn’t want a room with a jet tub. The sheets and pillow cases were stained. The breakfast was extremely limited, cold, and poor.”

”There were some stains on the wall and in the shower. The sliding door was broken (off its track) when we arrived. The towels were so scratchy. Not a bad place to stay for the price, but could definitely improve the facilities.”
