”The room was clean and the staff was extremely helpful and kind. The building definitely has remnants of that 60’s vibe. You can hear everything going on outside. Glass louvred windows were not efficient noise cancelling so when guests were partying until 3am it was not conducive for sleep. My room was on the first floor. ”

”The hotel is an older hotel which was perfect however it was my own fault for booking a plain room; no antique curtains or older beds. It was a very very boring room. Hotel was walking distance to Japantown but that’s all. It’s either bus or uber to all locations. The breakfast was very nice. The coffee in the lobby and cookies are a nice touch! When you first walk into the hotel you get a very bad smell but you get used to it. The rest of the hotel does not smell that way. The bartender is...

”Staff was friendly and welcoming 24/7. I never had to open any door myself in the lobby. I felt safe and it was clean. Location isn’t noisy at all. Probably the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in for an exceptional price. ”

”I have stayed here for 20 years, it was The Opal and it has been gorgeously remodeled but has all the things I love before. In and out enclosed parking, Mel’s Diner attached so food mostly anytime, comfortable beds👍, conveniently located at Van Ness and Geary Street so Ubers and cabs etc are easy. Tommy’s Joint an SF favorite for great food, beer and cocktails across the street. And a big movie theater practically next door. Very reasonable price for how nice it is now.”

”I had issues (twice...) with the codes not working when trying to enter my room which made me feel unsafe especially when this happened midnight. Reception is not open after 10pm so I received help via Whatsapp and staff was helpful. Other things that lower my rating were the metal beds that made a lot of noise. Also the whole floor only had 2 showers working. I have never had to wait to shower in hostel before. I wish toilets had more hooks to put towels/clothes in and rooms had mirrors....

”very nice, neat rooms with great AC and shower. convenient location and not too noisy despite being so close to the nightlife. parking's a little funky but overall also very convenient! staff were on top of everything and the facilities overall seemed very clean; only complaint is that the vending machine did not work whatsoever. however, great little place in walking distance of so much stuff! loved it, would absolutely stay again!”

”We really enjoyed our staying in stylish Proper Hotel San Francisco. We got excellent, yet easygoing service and ate delicios breakfast. The room itself was fine design with high quality toiletries. Because of the not-so-safe district where the hotel is, it’s good to understand, that the view out of the window and late walking on the streets is not recommended. Nevertheless these facts didn’t bother us too much.”
