Seaside's historic Forsythe House has just completed and extensive interior and exterior renovation (2025), and for the FIRST TIME EVER, now offers full access to its spectacular two-story sky deck! This remarkable property will be available on a limited basis for the rental season.

Designed by renowned architect and Seaside Prize recipient Walter Chatham, the historic Forsythe House integrates both modern and industrial elements, combined with unique artistic touches created by the original owners Bill and Mary Florence Forsythe as well as other local artists. The Forsythe House was the first townhome built in Ruskin Place, 'Artists Colony' – Seaside’s enclave of artists workshops, galleries and residences located immediately north of Seaside Central Square. This beautiful park is the site of frequent musical performances and art festivals, which can be enjoyed from your front porch!

Though the years, the Forsythe House has been featured in a variety of architectural publications and is sure to be a one-of-a-kind vacation for family and friends. Much like the shops of Ruskin Place, Forsythe House offers a little variety for everyone. Enjoy spectacular sunsets from the spacious rooftop terrace boasting one of the best vantage points in Seaside. Choose from the newly completed upper 5th floor Sky Deck with panoramic view of the Gulf from east to west, the lower roof deck with a covered sitting area and sunrise chairs to the east, or the western rooftop deck with a large dining table and chairs overlooking the beautiful gulf sunsets.

Ruskin Park is an outdoor extension of your downstairs living area, while the private outdoor courtyard to the back is a great spot for enjoying lunch and dinner. The chef in the family will enjoy preparing meals in the open two-story kitchen which includes a Garland gas stove, concrete countertops, Breville appliances, sous vide cooker, Big Green Egg BBQ grill, and even a paella pan for those who want to take advantage of the local seafood. After dinner enjoy the musical ambiance provided by the vinyl turntable and house collection of vintage jazz, blues and classic rock LPs. As the day winds down, ascend the open, floating staircases which seem to suspend from the walls to the upper floor bedrooms and roof decks.

Take advantage of this Seaside treasure while it remains available!

Clean, thoughtful, eclectic design and layout. Perfectly located so we were able to park and not drive for a full week. There are a lot of stairs so be sure you don't have any physical issues that would impact your ability to access the bedrooms as they are on the 2nd and 3rd floors; however that did not in any way diminish our stay. I will definitely be staying here again. The bonus was watching beautiful sunsets from the private rooftop and enjoying the vinyl player over drinks once the sun set. My only small complaint was the lack of any staple items that have been in every other VRBO in which I have stayed; we had to purchase salt, pepper, olive oil, and sugar to cook a couple of meals. It wasn't that big a deal as we purchased some to leave behind for the next guest, just unexpected based on every other amenity in the facility and my overall VRBO experiences.

Wonderful property and such accommodating hosts!

We love to make an annual pilgrimage to Seaside for the 30A Songwriters Festival. Sandpiper Rentals is the property management company that tends to manage the properties we've rented over the past 8-9 years, and they are just great. This property was awesome and right in the thick of everything we wanted to do and every place we wanted to visit.

It is well documented in the information for the house that the house is very vertical and has many open stairs. We had a great time and had no problems - we would love to stay there again. But, I don't think it would be suitable for young children or older adults (primarily because of the stairs). We have a small / medium dog (25lbs). We didn't feel comfortable letting him go up or down the stairs because of gaps - thus we carried him which wasn't a big deal but again this property may not suit everyone. The house has huge positives - the cooking equipment, outdoor spaces (with green egg!) super views, and bathrooms are all great. The best of all was the location. The West Ruskin crossover was also a very nice surprise - with a restroom and a storage room for your gear. I think it is a good house 1-2 couples and 2-4 young adolescent / adolescent kids.

You can’t get a better location than this condo! You walk out and you are at the shops at seaside. That made it very easy to grab food and get to the beach. We also brought our two dogs and there’s a big grass area outside the door so it was easy taking them out. I know it says it’s a modern house, it’s very modern. Sometimes you want more comfort after being at the beach, lounge, make some snacks for everyone to gather around, it’s kind of hard to do at this house. The kitchen side is tight and the area by the tv, the couches aren’t really for relaxing. We like to play card games as a family and we had to bring the kitchen chairs over to the tv area in order to play around the coffee table. Again, we saw pictures, it was just a little different how I was picturing it. The roof top deck was amazing. We have four kids and my oldest brought a friend so it was nice to escape up there with my husband for a cup of coffee in the morning or glass of wine at night. It was quiet, even with some college kids next door, we never heard them. You get a great work out with all the stairs :) do not rent if stairs are a problem. The bed was probably the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in and amazing pillows! Overall, we had a great stay and it’s prime location is a major factor why we would again. Easy communication with the management.

Unique, art-infused townhouse in an amazing location but mind the stairs

My husband and I loved the Forsythe House. It’s very unique and not your typical beach rental. The space has a very cool vibe and we loved the views from the roof, over the park and the record player was also a great touch. There is lots of glass throughout so we didn’t love the fish bowl effect especially in the evening where people passing by can see everything (no curtains on the first floor). Seeing out to the view over the park was lovely. But people seeing right back in wasn’t my favorite. (I know, you can’t have it both ways). We also loved that it was pet friendly. No complaints about this house at all .. we’ve already recommended it to some friends. However, if you have small kids or a small dog, I wouldn’t recommend it. The “floating stairs” in the house are aesthetically cool, but not safe for kids or dogs in my opinion. They aren’t just open at the riser, but they don’t have an attached railing with gaps of several inches between the tread and the wires they used for the railing. We had to carry our dog up and down. Just a small price to pay to reach the beautifully decorated bedrooms and amazing roof top deck. The roof top is another stellar feature and we enjoyed several sunsets up there but had to hold our dog in our lap or keep him on a short leash because the railings are very open. The location on Ruskin Square is stunning and we will 100% stay here again if we aren’t traveling with pets. Management was great and we really loved the location and the vibe.

No privacy

This property is the worst so far that I have rented in Seaside. The primary bedroom has no doors, only curtains, so there is zero privacy and it’s located above the kitchen, which makes it loud. The cabinets are wonky, the drawers sometimes refuse to shut, the patio needs re-decking, the outdoor shower does not work, the furniture is uncomfortable down to every last chair, and the TVs are not smart. The location is great but I would not rent this particular property again. I definitely did not get my money’s worth this trip.

Perfect location for a Seaside visit for wedding.

This property on Ruskin Park was the perfect location for our visit. The place was well equipped and comfortable. It is as advertised, but realize that while the stairs are beautifully designed and the features of the home are unique, this how would not be appropriate for anyone who cannot manage them, inclusing getting your bags to the bedrooms. The rooftop and outdoor spaces, particularly on the park side, provide a wonderful place to relax and interact. I will definitely stay here again on a return trip to Seaside.

Great Location but can’t have a cart

Very cool decor and wonderful location behind main shopping area. The only downside is you can’t rent a golf cart in that area - and we wanted one. So we would have rented nearby in Watercooler and rented a cart. But not homeowner’s fault. The two bikes included were a nice touch.

Beautiful classy artful home by the sea

We loved this stay! Such a fun place for art lovers and the record player and collection inspired us to start our own. Small kids and small pets would not be good with the stairs. We adored Ruskin Park’s charm and the Forsythe house was so much fun!

Needs updates, great location

Overall the house was nice and the location was great. The curtains in the third floor bedroom are water stained and do not go all the way to the top which means you can’t sleep in. The cooking pans were really old and black. I would not even use them. Lastly, the refrigerator was so loud we had to move from the second floor bedroom to the third. There are no doors on the second floor bedroom so you can hear everything from downstairs.

Memorable Stay

The Forsythe House was the perfect place to stay for me, my 3 teenaged kids and their 3 friends. The location was very convenient as they made many trips to Modica Market, and the walk to the beach was easy. Our favorites parts about the house were watching the sunset from rooftop terrace and hanging out on the front porch with the doors open and listening to music from the awesome record player.

Fantastic house in a amazing location!

My family of five and two dogs had such an incredible stay at Forsythe. We loved every minute of it! We loved the uniqueness of the house and how close it was to all that Seaside has to offer. I would highly recommend it (but don't book for the dates I want to come back;)

Perfect for a girl's weekend

The Forsythe House was perfect for our bachelorette beach weekend/girl's getaway. Though it sleeps 8, I think it fit 6 comfortably. I wouldn't recommend this house with small children or people with disabilities because of the 3 sets of narrow stairs. The property was clean and well-maintained, but one of our showers was broken when we got there. It was fixed immediately after Sandpiper realized something was wrong. Pictures don't capture all of the unique architecture and artwork throughout the house - it looks even better in person! The rooftop was beautiful - plenty of chairs and space for day or night relaxing. The house was in walking distance to the Seaside circle of shops and restaurants, as well as the beach. Forsythe was a perfect fit for our stay, and I'd highly recommend it.

Great Property

Very nice rental property in a great location in the heart of Seaside. The location is perfect on Park and with short easy access to shops, dining and the beach. Very well appointed large town home. Commercial stove was great and equipment in general is high standard (unlike most rentals): great washer/dryer, wine refrigerator etc. Comfortable layout and roomy, stairs may be an issue for older travelers. Great service team. Would highly recommend.

6/10 Kohtalainen

A bit dated. Clean. Great location. Excellent management.

I have stayed in several properties along 30A including 4 in Seaside. This property had a great location in Ruskin Place behind the circle at Seaside. I chose it for it proximity to all of the events and activities of the annual Seaside Wine Festival. I also chose this property based upon favorable reviews from past guests on VRBO and the appealing pictures shown on the VRBO page. Problems we had during our stay: Oven would not light. It is a gas oven. We could get the range to work, but not the oven. We did not call for help. The bathrooms are on the small side. The master bath was difficult to use as the shower was in the form of a stand alone tub with shower curtains on all sides. The curtains were too long when placed inside the tub, and when outside the tub, the floor got soaked. The ice maker did not make much ice. We were there for four nights and had to supplement the ice maker with bagged ice. The placement of the television in the living room was awkward. It is a smaller unit in a closet. The remote control for the cable box was missing its battery cover and several buttons only worked with a firm push. Parking is limited. You can only fit one small car behind the property. You must seek additional parking nearby, usually available. There isn't much privacy as has been noted in previous reviews. The stairways are open and somewhat confusing. There are two paths leading up which reach the upper floors in different places. All of the chairs on the roof but two had issues. One wooden chair was missing an armrest. All but one of the plastic Adirondack style chairs were broken. The keys did not work well. One had to play with the lock to get it to work. The lighting was strange. The entire first floor and stairwells were lit with outdoor style halogen lights on dimmer switches. If you turned then on all the way, you were staring at a flood light on the way down the stairs. Things we liked: Location, location, location. You can't beat staying on Ruskin Place. The gas grill worked well. The women in our group loved the decor/artwork. The management at Sandpiper is ALWAYS easy to work with. The property was pet friendly although the VRBO site makes no mention of an additional $100 pet fee. The WiFi signal was strong throughout the house. In conclusion, I would not rent this property again. It needs an update. It was clean. It is in a great location. It would be great for a couple with older children/teens. It was not suitable for more than two adults.

Unique house in artist colony. Fabulous Seaside location!

My husband and I stayed here on our anniversary. We loved this house! It's in an awesome location. It's a stroll to restaurants, shopping and the beach. The stairs in the house are very steep though. I would not recommend this house for small children or elderly people.
