”A great inn, in a good location. Staff were very friendly and the evening meal was excellent. The room was really nice with plenty of space, warm, clean and well equipped. Some noise carried through from other rooms but this wasn’t too much of a problem for our stay. Breakfast was ok but the full English breakfast fell a bit short of expectations. Overall would definitely recommend to stay at the Black Swan.”

”Great stay in a great pub/inn in a lovely village. Originally we were looking for somewhere near York and picked this place at random – so got lucky. Decent-sized, comfortable room, the beer 'proper' Yorkshire, and the food was excellent throughout – we could have eaten almost amything on the quite extensive menu. ”The staff were excellent especially the young man who checked us in, served dinner and served at the bar. I didn’t sleep much at all the first night because of the very hard mattress but after I asked if we could have an extra duvet on the bed then the second night I slept much better. Breakfast was plentiful but the service was very slow. We had dinner here both evenings and it was ok but again the service was very slow. We would stay here again.”

”Great sized room overlooking the market square. Hotel offers free safe parking at rear of hotel and close to all amenities, we visited the James Heriot experience and several local pubs. Thirsk is a great location to visit other local towns like Pickering , Ripon , Northallerton and Helmsley.”

”The Accommodation is very dated, it was clean by very shabby. I managed to get the TV working but it was on an aerial and was unwatchable.”

”We arrived the tv in the room didn’t work we were told it was due to a storm but later found out it was the control box. That was it left to our own devices no sorry we were told free drinks were offered but we didn’t receive anything. At breakfast there wasn’t enough room so again left to our own devices to find seating in the cold bar. We were asked at breakfast if the room needed service or a drink we said service but got neither. All in all the staff could do better. ”

”Situated in a picture postcard little village, everything about the hotel was top notch, the decor throughout and our room was tasteful and modern, everything was spotless and clean. The food was excellent, I had the fish platter which I would highly recommend. Staff were attentive and polite, it's a five stars from me”

”No food in late evening which was a shame as I missed dinner at an event I was attending in Leeds. Overnight the hotel was very noisy with sound travelling between floors etc. The staff were nice but a little indifferent. The breakfast was part cold and the coffee was terrible. Didn’t get a chance to try the spa.”
