Between lively Amsterdam and charming Alkmaar lies a surprising piece of tranquillity: the Uitgeestermeer lake. Here, you immediately feel the pace slow down. On a sunny morning, sailing boats glide by, the air smells of water and freedom. In summer, you can enjoy swimming, supping or boating more often. If you don't have your own boat, you can also rent one here.

For a beach day, Castricum aan Zee is not far, where the dunes slowly turn into beach. On warm days, the best way to get here is by bike.

Prefer a little more hustle and bustle? Hop on the train to Amsterdam for culture and world-class energy, or visit Alkmaar and get carried away by canals, shops and the famous cheese market.
