Well appointed house in a beautiful location
We have a lovely stay at the end of August. The house is very comfortable and there was easily enough space for 8 of us and three dogs! The location is perfect for exploring the north Somerset coast and Exmoor, and having the hot tub to come home to each evening was an added bonus, and also the table tennis table, which we all enjoyed. Jane was very responsive if we had any queries and we were even able to check out late since no one else was coming that day. Would highly recommend for group holidays.

Beautiful location, fantastic stay
We came down for 3 days as part of a half term break with two kids, 2 and 4. The house is part of a Devonshire longhouse dating back over 400 years and is in an amazing part of the country. Wish we'd had longer to explore the trails across the coast and welcombe mouth beach. Will be back with kids when older Ulla is a great host and went out of her way to make us feel welcome, the property is really well stocked with extras like bathrobes and a cream tea in the fridge I wouldn't expect, and lots of info on local area and games for the kids. It is remote and down some proper rural green tunnel roads so just prepare for that and you'll be fine Great stay, sad to leave!

Family fun
What an amazing holiday. We were met by Jane on arrival and she explained everything we might need,showed us around and was on hand if we needed help with directions throughout our stay. Merry Oaks is a beautiful place. So much space and kitted out with everything for a hassle free holiday. All the children loved it being able to run around safely and use the hot tub. The weather was wonderful but there were cool places to sit and relax. Close to lots of attractions and only 15min drive from Minehead. Nobody wanted to leave and we all want to go back. Thank you again for a lovely holiday

Great family home
Nice, private, quiet setting. Comfortable beds and nice linens. House was bright and comfortable—our home away from home. Our communication with Jane who runs the property was extremely easy and efficient. Not far from the attractions that we wanted to see—good base for us to do site seeing, yet far enough that we felt like we were in the country.

Amazing family vacation
Friendly and helpful right from the start. A fantastic property in beautiful peaceful countryside. Clean cosy and well appointed. Plenty of space for everyone to relax and enjoy the property. Even better than expected
What a wonderful 4 days we had! My friend described the house as, “a place filled with love.” Jane is a great hostess, supplying us with milk when I realised I forgot to bring some, and coming out at 11:00 in the evening to fix the fire alarm which decided it was time to run out of batteries. The location is beautiful and the pub and local cider farm are within easy walking distance. We had a wonderful time and would recommend a stay here.

2nd visit
Having stayed last year, it was a unanimous decision by all, to visit again. Property is well laid out, with all the amenities you need and plenty of room for the children to play. Location is quiet, but plenty of places to visit, depending upon your tastes. Local pub is a 5 minutes walk away.

Fantastic accommodation
A wonderfully spacious house in a beautiful location. 3 adults and 3 teenagers had a fantastic week here. The living room was very comfortable and the kitchen/dining area was also great for socialising and was well equipped. The bedrooms were comfortable and well proportioned too. Jane was very responsive. No negative comments at all.

Absolute Gem
This is a gorgeous house with beautiful views , lots of windows and a really fabulous kitchen with a wonderful big table perfect for larger groups. We also took our dogs and they had a lovely time Jane is super responsive if any queries the house is close to the beaches of Minehead and 1 hour 20 to the Devon beaches - we made the trip there for a day alos and its such a lovely drive its well worth it. Really lovely house!!!

Great place for all the family
This farmhouse is a great place for all ages. My very elderly mother who walks with a frame coped very well. Plenty of room for everyone to do their own thing. The house is very well equipped. The host was kind enough to be at the house to collect a delivery of groceries. Lovely garden with suntrap at the back and a good bbq. Seaside is not far as is Dunster. Lots of good restaurants in the area and the local pub within easy distance is not bad at all. You should be aware there is a steep drive up to the house but it is flat all around the house so older people can walk round the garden and patio area.

Wonderful
A large family group of different ages, we all loved our stay at Merry Oaks. Spotlessly clean, absolutely everything catered for from all required utensils, plenty of equipment right through to the provision of beach towels if needed. Plenty of books and games and maps to suit every taste and plenty of room in this gorgeous house. Small healthy pond kept the grandchildren enthralled with wildlife watching (we even observed a swimming grass snake) and the beautiful weather enabled us to make the most of the gorgeous garden areas. Highly recommended.

Lovely house to spend for a holiday
We had a great time just before all the kids are back to school. It was a lovely house with a beautiful views. We went there as 2 families with 5 children altogether and we all enjoyed it very much. We went to Minehead and the beach was great lovely sandy beach, kids loved it and spent the whole day there. Also, went to the Blue Anchor which is a rock beach, didn't stay long but still nice to have a walk there. We also went to Taunton to a Chinese Restaurant called Mei's which has lovely foods there. Also, a pub called The Bicknoller Inn they had very nice fish and chips too. Overall, we had a great time but I've only given 4 stars instead of 5. I do agreed with previous people that the shower was a bit tricky when you have some many people (9 of us). We have already tried to make sure some of us to go to the shower in the morning some had it at the evening but still not enough hot water. And on the first night it was a little chill during the night but we realised only downstairs heating was working but not upstairs. Then we've read the instruction/advice note in the kitchen, the upstairs heating aren't with the same heating control and it controlled by a fire burner (in the kitchen) which not allow to be used and didn't sound easy anyway so we decided to just leave it. The rest of the holiday, the weather was getting better and warmer so it was fine without it. But one thing I need to said is Jane (the owner) was super nice, we had a problem with the TV after we've checked in. We contacted her and she came right away with her husband to fix it for us, otherwise without the TV would be hard to entertain 5 children all the time, so big thank you to them both. p/s the BBQ at the garden was very nice.

Hi Kevin, we are so glad you enjoyed your visit to West Somerset. Thank you for your comments about the water, we have decided to put in an electric shower over the winter to improve things for larger groups. I am sorry you didn't let me know you were chilly, there are extra electric heaters, a choice of thick and thin duvets and blankets available in the house. I hadn't shown you where they were as I didn't expect it to feel cold in August! I'm glad it warmed up for you. Best wishes, Jane

Just wonderful
Perfect place for a family - layout of house suited us to a T . Spacious, welcoming and homely. Grandparents had the ground floor bedroom En-suite , rest of family had upstairs.Kitchen diner worked a treat and quieter sitting room restful and calm for reading or playing games. Location was exactly right with Dunster beach for the children and lovely walks through Horner and over Dunkery .Thank you to Jane and David for allowing us a few days respite from the Covid 19 to be in a family bubble once again. We loved the whole experience.

What a lovely house and owner
The house was lovely also plenty of room, the owner very helpful and very nice. I have no bad words to say. It was clean tidy with lots of little thing for the kids to do (we did a jigsaw) Everything was working as it should. Lots of room to put stuff away. Everything very comfortable. The hall up stairs with a settee and dvd tv was a life saver with the kids for before bed time. Plenty of pans cups ect. A closed in garden area that was great for the dog and kids nice grass area in that bit of the garden we set up a small paddling pool . BBQ and out side seating area was very nice. Easy to find local shop, local town very short drive. Over all could not ha e been happier, was sad to leave and will probably be booking another saty We were 5 adults a 4 year old a 5 year old and two 1 year olds and there was more than enougth room. Easily fit 4 cars on the driveway, and a nice little pub down the hill. A very peaceful place to stay with everything you need on the property and everything you would like with in a short drive. All in all a wonderful time had by all. Hope we didnt leave it in to much of a mess.

If you are looking for somewhere to enjoy the stunning Somerset countryside, then look no further.The property is exactly as it is in the photographs.....absolutely beautiful. Beautiful property for relaxing break
Rented property for a nostalgic 90th B'day for Mum. Beautifully laid out homely house. Plenty of walks for young and fit and short distant to drive for Mum to relive her youth. All who came to visit Mum loved the surroundings. Only problem we found not enough hot water for amount of showers required for eight people. Would certainly consider hiring again.

Magical Stay in Exmoor
Merry Acres was the perfect place for an Exmoor excursion with my family. The house was clean, spacious and had extraordinary views of the countryside. Family get together in the countryside
Great location with a couple of minutes walk to a lovely pub and a cider farm. Suited our extended family of 9 for a family birthday well with plenty of seating inside and out. Beds comfortable. Wonderful views and amazing local countryside. Great day trips out with plenty to see and do in the local area. Jane was very helpful in the lead up to the break and greeted us on arrival. A very relaxed stay indeed. The only frustration was not being able to get the tv to work - we must have been missing something.

Peace and Quiet!
We had a great few days celebrating three generations of family birthday! The house was spacious and clean. Snuggled into the hillside there are great walks straight from the house and plenty to do a little further afield. Jane (host) met us when we arrived and showed us around the house. Jane was also very helpful with advice about places to visit and walks from the front door. The wrap around garden is delightful (small fish pond to be aware of with little people!), plenty of outside seating, a bbq and delightful views! All the beds were very comfortable and there was plenty of seating for the 6 of us in the living room. We had a very happy time and would be likely to book again.

Great location and accommodation for our long weekend. We would happily have spent longer.
We enjoyed a lovely 4 generation family weekend at Merry Oaks (3 to 86). The views all around were stunning and we received a warm welcome on our arrival. The accommodation was nearly perfect for our needs and the range of ages in our party. The bed linen felt new and of a good quality and the beds were all very comfortable including the pillows. We would very happily have given 5 stars had there been a bit bigger hot water boiler which would have helped with showers in the morning. The step in the ensuite shower room without any handrails makes it tricky for guests with limited mobility and is something we will check more carefully when making further holiday choices.
