Very spacious, beautiful hotel and property. The staff was very nice. Only complaint was the bed stiff. They have fans if needed and you can open the windows if needed. Close to everything in town. Super convenient from the train station. I would stay here again. Loved it.

This hotel has issues which need addressing. Check in - no mention of WiFi or other features or services provided in the hotel. No mention of the works going on in the hotel. Get to our room and find a sign next to the door saying ‘Please be aware of construction site.’ Into the room and it was like an oven. Go to turn the air con on, it’s not working. Go and speak to the same receptionist who said that there was no air con and to open a window! That didn’t help. Went out for dinner and drinks and came back to the room and it was still like an oven. Tried to sleep with the recommended windows opened and there was no air and the York night life coming through the window. I went to speak to reception and I asked whether any of the rooms had air con. None of the rooms have had any for months! They have had to turn it off whilst they upgrade the system. No offer of a fan or any resolution or apology. I ask for a fan and begrudgingly she agreed to arrange for one to be sent by the night shift. This moved warm air around a warm and nothing more. I would not recommend booking a summer stay in this hotel as if there is a warm period then you are not going to enjoy your stay. There are many other issues in the hotel from holes in the ceiling, staff who could not be any less interested in being in the job they are paid to do and poor food quality for breakfast with bone fragments in the sausages. I understand that you can have issues at a hotel but you took the biscuit!

Very modernized and updated, which makes the experience more enjoyable. Clean, relatively quiet for a center city hotel, spacious room, nice bathroom. They provide a fan in the room if you like having white noise when you sleep. No AC though they have windows that crack open. Only negative was the fire alarm went off for about a minute but went off as we were scrambling to leave the room. Asked front desk about it and his only answer was “we cannot disclose”. Ok well that sounds like a cover-up of something. Overall a great place to stay.

Very grand foyer and downstairs lounges. Fine breakfast. No air conditioning in bedrooms. Very warm throughout all of the hotel. Standard rooms were cramped compared to even budget hotel rooms. Small double beds.

It is a beautiful building in a historic city. Just like other cities with long history, the wheelchair accessibility can do better. Our room was upgraded. There are 7 steps of stairs from the lift. Just a bit inconvenient for us to carry luggages. It is a beautiful room in a beautiful building at the best location.

My room was appalling, air conditioning when on was leaking water so had to turn off, was really warm but couldn’t open the window as there was a constant whiting noise outside and due to location of room had to have curtains permanently closed. Despite reporting nothing done! Bathroom and room stunk of sewerage from the bathroom and on 2 occasions the key sopped working!

The hotel and grounds were well kept , very convenient for the railway station and within easy walk of shops bars and restraunts . Breakfast was good although a little limited . Our room veiw wasnt very good and the room was quite warm as the AC was not commissioned we asked for a fan and it was brought to our room straight away. Tea and coffee in the room with biscuits , fridge and safe also . We asked for some fresh milk as i dont like uht and again it was brought to our room straight away . On the whole we had an excellent time and would stay again but with a better room . I did offer to pay for upgrade but not available

Lovely hotel in nice surroundings. Lots of space inside. Staff very nice and helpful. Nice view of York Minster from room window. Bed comfortable. Loved the bathroom. But lightning could have been better - it was a little dark. Would go again.

Large, comfortable room in a beautiful Victorian hotel conveniently located adjacent to the York train station. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was traditional English and quite good. I thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay and would definitely stay there again.

A beautiful hotel within walking dustance of York. The hotel really has a luxurious feel to it but i felt the price i paid was very reasonable! The staff were all very polite & helpful. Ill definitely stay again if i return to York!

Very poor accommodation, with no heating. From a suffer of arthritis this was not acceptable. Offered an oil heater that looked like it had come from a skip and certainly didn’t offer much improvement to the core temperature. Resorted to using a hairdryer to warm my joints. Breakfast was poor but the staff tried hard to make it acceptable.Not for me again.

We had a lovely stay at the principle, our room was very clean and spacious with a lovely view of the main hotel and the station. The evening meal was really nice and we enjoyed the breakfast choice and it was lovely and hot. The staff were very friendly and tentative We will be coming back to enjoy the rest of the facilities as this was a short trip

Ein schönes Hotel direkt am Bshnhof von York gelegen. Alles ist Fußläufig erreichbar bzw. es befindet sich eine Bushaltestelle vor der Tür wo reguläre Linienbusse und Touristen Busse abfahren. Das Hotel ist auch für Gäste mit Mobilitätseinschränkungen nutzbar und besitzt einen Aufzug. Im Hotel gibts auch eine Bar und Restaurant für die Besucher.

Staff are really nice and helpful, the room are starting to look tired. Marks on the carpet curtains and skirting boards could do with tiding up, the evening meal menus are really good but breakfast is sadly lacking for what you pay for it. This needs addressing as it did leave me feeling short changed

Comfortable room. Convenient location for arrival by train and access to the town centre. However, this hotel has suffered from some crude cost-cutting. Building condition and cleanliness is poor. Breakfast was underwhelming and on a par with a budget hotel. Probably the most disappointing element of my stay.

It is an old established traditional hotel that has been renovated to a high standard. The bedroom was large (2 double beds) with a large bathroom. The TV worked and received all the channels it should have ( not all hotels I have stayed in have TV’s with as much choice) A well stocked bar with food available, breakfast served in a large bright room with a good selection of hot and cold options, if it’s not out on the hot plates, ask and they will get it if they can?

Property is beautiful, there must be so much history in it but it shows in the rooms and the facilities. Closeness to train station is a huge positive till your given a room on the edge of the platform and wake up to every train announcement from 5.00am. Staff knew very well that they had put a family there but said sorry and that was it. Even though the floor was empty with quieter rooms!!

Fantastic location especially if you are traveling in by train! Holding baggage was very helpful. Room was a bit smaller than expected, however was perfect for an overnight trip.

Staff are very polite and helpful, hotel is conveniently located next to the station and beautiful building, entrance hall and large garden. I absolutely love the building and decor on the ground floor. Unfortunately the room was very dated, and the bed was extremely uncomforable (I like hard bed but the bed actually hurts me. My partner and I woke up several times due to aches and pain). The bathroom is very small with hardly anywhere to hang clothes or turn around. Shower handle fell off. Mini fridge was nosy we had to switch it off from the wall before going to bed. No hair dryer. No air conditioning. Lots of pumkin seeds (taken from the breakfast bar) outside the window attracting piegons /poo and they werent clean. It is an old hotel and so I dont expect the rooms to be modern and can accept the above. But what I find unaccpetable are 1. We asked for a quiet room, and were given a room facing the railway station and the restaurant (no views of course) , and the restaurant had loud music from the early afternoon!!! It was good that reception asked them to switch off the music and I thank the hotel staff for that. 2. This is totally NOT what i would expect from a good hotel...the breakfast! The sausages are poorly cooked , very dry and tasteless. Worst than fee breakfast included with some cheap chain hotels. We were only given 1 cup of tea or coffee and never been asked if we wanted a top up. Eggs are acceptable. Breakfast is definitely a big appointment.

A great location, walkable within 5 mins to the centre and all the activities you need. A well maintained hotel with a fantastic feel to it. We upgraded our room and it was massive with a super comfy bed and lovely bathroom. Will stay again when in York

Very close to main attractions in York, a very good location! Room was very hot, close to the train station lots of noises didn’t make for a great sleep, staff weren’t the friendliest, room wasn’t ready for check in but a drink voucher was given

The hotel is located close to the Railway Station and the main road. It is difficult to control the level of noise that infiltrates into the hotel.The hotel is in the process of installing air cons in all bedrooms. The proximity to York centre was ideal The room was superb clean and leisure facilities were great The only downside is the restaurant menu we thought was not befitting the style of hotel so we eat out each night

The Principal Hotel is an amazing hotel. Very close to the train station and easy walking distance to the centre of York. Our room and washroom were spacious and comfortable. The staff were friendly and very helpful. This stay has been a highlight of our stays so far.

Fantastic building maintaining many original features. Staff friendly and attentive and more than willing to help with anything. Room was lovely, we stayed in a suite. There was some work going on in hotel, only to be expected in such a large hotel, but this didnt cause any issues. Excellent location for train station
