”Lovely old property on the edge of town. Front Desk staff on arrival were OK but not hugely communicative (morning team were much better). Same with the bar staff although the prices were pretty good. The room was old but clean and tidy. And HOT, although we were in a UK heatwave at the time. They do provide a fan which helped a bit. Overall a decent place to stay and would stay again if passing by that way again.”

”I stayed here for work purposes being a short 20 minute commute to Grt Baddow. My work colleague and I were made very welcome. The place was spotlessly clean. Had a lovely bar downstairs for drinks and pub snacks and did a fantastic breakfast in the morning.. I would recommend the full English although there were alternatives, all in all I had a very good stay. I would definitely return to the Oakland if I was working in the area..”

This is a pretty basic hotel though - room large with comfy bed but warm - and if you don't have a room in the hotel itself you are nowhere near the sea - wasn't a problem for us. It's a very busy locals pub though which we were good with but not a tranquil seaside stay. And parking is tricky as need to top up at the off-site carpark at 8am each day. Good breakfast tho!”
