”While close to town center getting there requires a walk up a very steep hill--not suitable for old people. The hotel was helpful in terminating our stay after one day. A well placed hotel for younger people requiring a basic hotel. Breafast was good. Evening menu should be avoided.”

”Lovely location within easy reach of Wivenhoe and colchester. Our room was in the main house so the room was period therefore furnished with old furniture which is not really to our taste. The bathroom was modern however and spotless. We tried the restaurant for dinner, unfortunately only Sunday roast menu and a few other mains. We both had roast but unfortunately not the best 4/10 and patchy service too. Nobody asked if we liked it but mandatory 12.5% service charge! However the breakfast was...

”The room was very small as was the bed. We booked for two nights but checked out after just the one night, due to the noisy racket from the room next door which went on until gone 03.00. Youngsters in their late teens or early 20's with no respect at all for others. We were unable to get a room change, and the hotel wasn't likely going to turf them out on their ears. So we took a refund and booked into a Holiday Inn a couple of miles away, which was absolutely excellent.”

”Nice touch the fridge and microwave the bathroom and room looked clean But the walls are to thin Close to the road the traffic is all u hear . The people above every move they make you can hear, doors closing and feet stomping . ”

”Really comfortable bed. Super clean. Great for a couple of nights stay. Close to the University to meet up with our daughter. Would recommend the Beth Chatto Garden near by for a visit. ”

”Hotel was old, worn, dirty and cold. There is no restaurant, and no stores nearby to get food etc. Staff was nice, but that didn’t save the experience. ”

”Beautiful grade 1 listed building. Staff were fantastic nothing was too much trouble, and very friendly. Would definitely recommend it and would love to go again”
