Keeper’s Cottage is a beautifully restored Grade II-listed woodland retreat on the historic Mapperton Estate in Dorset. Dating from the late 18th century, it was once home to the estate’s gamekeeper, a role central to the care and stewardship of Mapperton’s wildlife and landscape. Today, it offers guests the chance to stay in a peaceful corner of living history, surrounded by ancient trees and rewilded hills.

Sleeping up to six guests (including a sofa bed), the cottage blends off-grid charm with modern comfort. Inside are two bedrooms, including an extra-comfortable super king bed with Egyptian cotton sheets, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and cosy, thoughtfully designed interiors. Outside, a private garden offers stunning countryside views and complete tranquillity.

Guests enjoy complimentary access to Mapperton Gardens and Wildlands, with reduced-price guided tours of Mapperton House (£5 per person, March–October). Walking trails begin right from the cottage door, weaving through the estate’s woods and hills, with many more routes to explore beyond the estate. The Jurassic Coast is just 15 minutes away, dogs are welcome downstairs, and the surrounding countryside offers a quietly restorative escape.
