Cheriton Fitzpaine: north-north-west from Upcott Barton. View from a point near Upcott Barton, a farm since Saxon times. The barton was the scene of a murder: judge Nicholas Radford, its owner, was killed by Thomas, Earl of Devon, on 23 October 1455. This event was one of the harbingers of the Wars of the Roses. Earlier, during Viking raids, the Exeter mint was removed to a castle hereabouts: its site lies in nearby fields

Great rooms the bed was so comfy. Staff were very helpful. Breakfast was just total mayhem- too many people in a small area, shortage of plates and mugs. The layout needs to be re - designed. The queue for food clashed with the coffee machine! The actual food was ok though

Clean and comfortable. Bed excellent. Staff friendly and very helpful. Great pool except understandably always busy. Handy for coast and Exeter.

Very friendly staff, hot tub wasn’t up to temp on our arrival but staff were very apologetic and we were not charged for it that evening. The Lodge was very clean, good quality bedding and toiletries.

This property was exactly as described, shabby chic and quirky. We loved the house, with ita hidden nooks and surprises round every corner! The gardens are wonderful, and Jenny was a fabulous contact, helpful and friendly with lots of local knowledge and passion for the area.
