Short version: AVOID! Smelly, noisy, decrepit dungeon. 0 stars. Long version: The pictures of this listing is not of the apartment you will stay in. It felt like somebody is milking the last penny out of the really run down place. The building is old and decrepit, it smells gross, the carpet is from the dinosaur era. The elevator was out when we arrived, it may have worked when we left, but it is so old, I think carrying my bags up and down 2 flights of stairs was a sound decision. We made a big mistake not leaving as soon as we walked in the door. The apartment smelled horrible even through it was drenched in some kind of air freshener. The bathroom is gross, its ceiling is full of peeling paint, the water pressure is low. The sheets are from a synthetic material of indeterminate origins. The floor creaks above and below, noise travels in from all directions. I asked the owner/manager whether we can check in before 3pm and was told that we have to pay $50 and will be told if it is possible on the day of the arrival. I never heard back about early check in but was asked on the day of check out to report right away when we leave so they can arrange cleaning. We have been spoiled by well run and welcoming VRBOs in the past, this one is a BIG exception. Very disappointing.

Great location, apartment was very clean. It is old and has "character" but it is well kept up. If you want something close by campus and a secure building, this is a good option. Communication regarding check-in and departure was very good. Some things I wish I had known are: it lists 'washer' and 'dryer' as amenities but they are communal washers and dryers in the basement, the radiators are loud and one is right next to the bed so it is disruptive while sleeping (but they did have earplugs for guests), there isn't a deadbolt on the door which means anyone with the code, can come in at anytime (this happened to us and it was a little scary), and the cleaning supplies like mops and buckets are sitting out next to the coat closet. For the price, those aren't deal breakers but things someone should know about before staying there. For the price, it was a good option in a good location.

This rental exceeded expectations. The host and her assistant were amazing with communication making accessing the rental seamless. The rental itself was amazing as well. The rental was very clean and quiet in a quiet location making my trip very relaxing. I will definitely be looking to rent again on my next visit.

When I got to the place it smelled of paint and I couldn’t stay there. I emailed the woman that night , she said she was sorry and would check into it I ended up staying on my son’s couch. She never responded to my request and when I called VRBO she said that her cleaning lady said I left the place a mess. This is a lie as I did not stay there. What 60 year adult on a short stay would fabricate this story. The management was not being truthful and in fact relied on a cleaning woman to relay to them the condition of the room which was not truthful rather than have someone from the mgmt team look into it I got no satisfaction from either you VRBO or the mgmt team in fact my integrity was questioned when in fact they were the ones lying

Good communication with host. 1 bedroom apartment with kitchenette in older building centrally located in Hyde Park. Comfortable bed. My only complaint was that shower had no water pressure and was tepid. I alerted the host on departure and they said they would have maintenance look at it.

It’s a very nice apartment. Felt like I was at home by the end of it. The neighborhood is nice too. Close to parks, museums, the lake, cafes, etc. It is also a 5 minute walk to the train station that takes you to downtown Chicago. Overall a pleasant stay.

The building in itself is very beautiful and serene and the apartment is very well kept, clean and has all the amenities one needs. The hosts are also incredible and just a txt away.
