Great Falls Park: Opastetut kierrokset ja aktiviteetit

At Great Falls, the Potomac River builds up speed and force as it falls over a series of steep, jagged rocks and flows through the narrow Mather Gorge. The Patowmack Canal offers a glimpse into the early history of this country. Great Falls Park has many opportunities to explore history and nature, all in a beautiful 800-acre park only 15 miles from the Nation's Capital.

What an absolutely breathtaking experience. With weather in the low seventies and spring not quite having sprung, there wasn't any foliage to block out the sunshine from the paths nor brambles or weeds to tangle your feet. The water was extremely high but beautiful to see. The rock formations are outstanding if you have an interest in geology but please be respectful of park rules and don't climb closer to the water--people drown each year and I am sure the leading cause is stupidity. Otherwise, there is plenty of space on the grounds to BBQ, play kick ball, and picnic. I can't believe how much time I spent looking at the falls and just going "wow." Also, for the history buffs this is part of the C&O Canal!
