Prestigious hotel close by ferry port
Stayed here for one night and all in all excellent experience. Service at the receptionist was impeccable and all the requests were fulfilled. Very nice view to port area of cruise vessels and catamarans coming and going makes it ideal location if you are planning on taking water transport onwards from Heraklion. Restaurant at the top was also top notch with lovely views. Pool looked extremely tempting but unfortunately this time there wasn't enough time to try it. Rooms quality was overall high and bed comfort of high standards. Lounge spacious to enjoy the ambient with a glass of wine for example. This is probably the best hotel on this city which positive reviews are a proof of.

Wow. Wasn’t expecting this excellent level of service — better than most places we have ever stayed. VIP room wasn’t huge but bed and view and bathroom (fab soaker tub) were top notch. And believe everything you read in reviews about the breakfast buffet. OMG — literally 50 choices Rooftop restaurant and poolside bar were great. And SOOO close to wonderful sights in Heraklion, like the archaeology museum and the ancient technology museum and the Venetian fort. The staff are wonderful too (yes, Jasmine, I’m talking about you. )

Megaron is excellent: the location is great, the property is elegant, facilities up to date, and the breakfast delicious. What makes it outstanding however are the people. Especially Efi at reception whose disposition and informative suggestions made our stay so much more pleasant

BEST HOTEL BREAKFAST EVER! We are frequent travelers so that we are fussy about breakfast options. AMAZING and TASTY! Offerings we would not even have imagined including homemade cookies, both sweet and savory dishes, including numerous Cretan specialties as well as every part of both an English and a German breakfast. AND the staff were ALL extremely friendly and helpful. The sea views overlooking the port from our room as well as the rooftop restaurant/bar are breathtaking. We have already recommended this hotel to various travelers we met along the way.

This is a recently renovated old hotel. It still has that grand hotel ambience. It's a little off the city center but is still quite easy to walk to all the things you want to see or eat. The sea view is actually a view of the ferry port, so that's not much. The breakfast is excellent. Overall, it's quite nice.

An excellent stay. Large well appointed rooms. Staff was gracious. Very comfortable bed. Lovely view and blackout curtains. The rooftop restaurant had a wide array of selections that allowed for a light or full meal. The breakfast alone would be a reason to come back. 10 minute walk to ferry terminal. Most highly recommended.

Thank you very much for choosing our hotel.According to our records, the coffee machine was replaced within 10 minutes from the moment you mentioned it. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but it was an unpredicatable malfunction. On the other hand, concerning our terrace on the 5th floor, indeed, it is closed, but it is also mentioned in our description, so one should not expect it to be open. As concerning our breakfast, our staff is here if anything additional is requested; unfortunately, you did not request our assistance during your stay.  We hope we will have the chance to welcome you soon again!

Nice hotel, but one cautionary note
The hotel and staff are excellent. The one drawback of the hotel is it’s location. In order to get to the shops and restaurants in the city core, you must first navigate 3 or 4 blocks that are not pedestrian friendly. The streets are narrow, dark and very run down. It did not feel safe at night. However, nothing bad occurred on our walks.

I chose this property because it was located only minutes walk from the central bus station, 10-15 mins away from the airport by car, and 10-15 mins to anywhere in the old town. The port and castle is practically outside your window. Should note that for €1.50, it’s 20 mins from the bus stop right behind the hotel to get to Knossos Palace! The hotel has a cool history but it is old and tired. The rooms are sufficient but dark, despite two windows. On the plus side, the bed was comfortable and the rooms very quiet, which I appreciated. Korres’ amenities was a nice touch. There is a cafe on site, but menu was limited and over priced. Unfortunately I didn’t have the opportunity to visit the breakfast buffet, but it looked generous with lots of options. There were 1-2 friendly folks at reception/front desk, but I have to admit overall the staff here was less friendly and helpful than all the other places I’ve stayed in Greece.

The hotel was absolutely beautiful and luxurious! We had a fantastic view of the port and city lights from our sea side suite, and the room was very spacious and beautifully decorated, including deep blue velvet upholstery and curtains. The buffet breakfast which was included was the best buffet breakfast we have ever experienced. The food was delicious and the presentation (and smells) were divine! The hotel was very conveniently located, within walking distance of the port, shops and dining. The only downside was that when the ferry came in at night, you could hear the traffic from our room, but that was also part of the convenient location. I would definitely recommend it!

This is the best hotel we have stayed in during our nine week tour of Europe. The staff were so helpful when looking for a place to watch the rugby. They were always smiling and friendly when we passed them. Even the cleaning staff smiled and said hello. The breakfast was phenomenal and the bed huge! Awesome all round!

The GDM Megaron is truly exceptional. If you are coming by Ferry to Heraklion, it is just a 10 minute walk from the dock. It is a modern hotel with great views and an incredible breakfast buffet. The hotel offers free parking as well and several restaurants (including the exceptional Peskesi - make sure you get reservations) and the main museum are all within walking distance. The airport is close by too for rental car pickups - there are local rental just around the corner as well.

We stayed here twice during our visit to Crete and it was fantastic! This hotel really made our stay amazing, highly recommend it. Our highlights were the friendly and helpful staff and all the little details accommodated for in our room. I have never been so excited for a hotel breakfast though!!! 5-star but not that interesting
Our suite was cavernous and lacking in charm. There was no seating on the balconies (they were rather narrow). Contrary to other reviews we found the roof-top bar/restaurant utterly boring (the pool area looked fun, however)and were glad to get out to eat locally - there's no shortage of delightful other places within a few blocks. The breakfast buffet is spectacular and they have someone to explain all the exotic dishes. This hotel is very well run and proper. It felt like the sort of place frequented by affluent older guests,

This hotel is a gem. Located in the port area waking distance to an old historic Fort. The room was immaculate, great service and a very nice restaurant.
