In the 1920s, the remaining towering Giant Redwood trees were threatened by logging. Its champions brought H.D. Rockefeller to visit, who was impressed enough to help the state of California buy this particularly thick stand of the world's tallest trees from the logging company that owned it. These trees live so long because, for one thing, they can withstand millennia of fires. Their lower bark is thick and has little pitch, and the nearest needles can be hundreds of feet up in the air where fire can't reach them! Wonderful stay, comfortable and clean rooms and facilities. They definitely have one of the best hotel self-serve breakfasts I’ve had in my travels. And you can’t beat the location.
