The river Kelvin, Glasgow, Scotland
Confluence of the Glazert & Kelvin Looking east from the footbridge that replaced the original Campsie Branch railway, the water below is the River Kelvin, which makes its way to the River Clyde in the centre of Glasgow. In the distance you can see where the Glazert Water (left) joins the River Kelvin (right). With the Luggie water similarly joining the Kelvin a few hundred metres downstream this confluence was instrumental in causing flooding in to new homes that developers erected on the Kelvin flood plain. The local council then had to spend millions in building a flood prevention scheme to protect them.

Kirkintilloch Golf Club Whilst this patch of golf course seems like any other, its hidden secret is that the Kelvin Valley Railway ran directly through this section (the top of a disused bridge can be seen through the bushes in the distance). The railway footpath has been re-aligned to follow the boundary of the golf course, giving walkers an unexpected detour round the fairway.

Bridge at Balquharrage This is the trackbed of the Kelvin Valley Railway, which ran from Maryhill (outside Glasgow) to the original Kilsyth station - which was replaced by the town's swimming pool. Kirkintilloch Road crosses above the former track, and the walkway here (which commences a little east of Birdston at the junction with the Campsie Branch of the Edinburgh to Glasgow Railway) ends abruptly here, with a fence preventing any further progress along the line to Torrance. A gate has been helpfully provided to at least allow you access to the road. The line opened in 1879, and this section of track closed in 1962 and the lines lifted.

I love this hotel! The location is great and reception was super helpful, doing all they could to get me into my room early after a long flight. Room was pretty amazing as well. I even changed my booking at another hotel so I can stay here again at the end of my journey. Definitely recommend!
