”The castle is absolutely gorgeous. I stayed in one of the rooms in the outbuilding in the grounds, surrounded by peacocks, and it was lovely to walk across the lawn in the rain in the early morning for breakfast in the castle restaurant. The drawing room is incredible, with a great bar and genuinely spectacular places to sit in medieval window seats and beautiful couches. The staff are all wonderful. The rooms in the outbuilding are grand, but a lot of the fixtures are getting a bit run down....

”Absolutely magical place to stay! The rooms were immaculate, beds very comfy, and the staff wonderful! The floor we stayed on was accessible by a small spiral staircase; large enough to get suitcases up, but perhaps not the most accessible so bear that in mind when booking. Would highly recommend taking time to walk the grounds and throughout the castle during your stay!”

”We booked for 5 nights so that we could explore the area, having never visited north east England previously. The location suited our purpose very well. The breakfasts were good and the staff made sure that all dishes were kept well filled; my one suggestion for meal improvement concerns the fixed all day menu. Whilst I understand the convenience (for the hotel) of having a fixed unchanging menu (except for the specials which were not available every evening) it does not suit guest who stay...
