We booked a fortnight's stay in the Ludovico apartment at Villa Sardini after a lengthy search for a property that met a number of important requirements. These included the need to be within easy reach of Pisa airport as my daughter and partner were only able to join us for the second of the two weeks. We also wanted a reasonable sized swimming pool, proximity to a town and local shops but a rural setting.
Villa Sardini delivered in all respects. The apartment was spotlessly clean and was one of several but still provided privacy. The generous grounds offered spectacular views of the Tuscan hills and included a large pool area with an ample supply of related 'furniture'. During our stay we had the pool entirely to ourselves for the second week.
One particular advantage of the location was the breeze that provided relief from the high temperatures that were experienced during the first week.
The historic and attractive city of Lucca was a short car / motor cycle / bicycle journey away and offered a good choice of shops, restaurants and points of interest. Nearby San Alessio has a small but excellent supermarket for those who prefer to self-cater.
Francesca was an accommodating hostess and, as others have said, was on hand every day to provide suggestions, advice and some interesting background information on the origins of the villa.
Overall, we would recommend Villa Sardini to anyone looking for high quality accommodation in a rural setting but with good links to both the main 'tourist attractions' and the smaller mountain villages of Tuscany.
