Tucked into a dramatic limestone plateau on the edge of the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley National Landscape, a stay in this wooden-clad holiday lodge in St Briavels promises breathtaking views, rich history, and unforgettable outdoor adventures – perfect for families or friends looking to escape into nature. Walk along the Offa’s Dyke Path (0.5 miles), where the springtime bluebells and wild garlic were said to have inspired Wordsworth. Just a short stroll from your lodge is St Briavels Castle (1.5 miles), a moated Norman fortress that was once a royal hunting lodge and prison. Now a youth hostel, it still dominates the village and offers a tangible sense of history. St Briavels is home to a vibrant community of artists and craftspeople, lending the area a creative energy that enhances its timeless charm. For wildlife lovers, birdwatchers, and families with curious kids, the nearby rivers Wye and Severn add yet more to explore. There is a beautiful pub in St Briavels Town centre called the George Inn (1.2 miles).
Tucked within the grounds of an established cottage, this beautifully presented lodge promises a tranquil escape with all the comforts of home. Inside, the open-plan living area is bright and airy with vaulted ceilings, a cosy wood burner, and a Smart TV for relaxing after a day of exploring. Large windows frame garden views, creating a peaceful atmosphere whilst you lounge on the sofa or gather around the generous dining table together. The well-equipped kitchen area has everything you need for easy self-catering, from preparing a long lunch to a celebratory evening meal. Flanking either side of the living area are two spacious bedrooms: one double with an en-suite shower room, and one zip-and-link king-size bedroom (which can be made into a twin on request), also with its own en-suite. Both enjoy garden views and have wall-mounted TVs for lazy mornings in bed.
Step outside to your private patio garden, complete with an outdoor dining set for sunny lunches or starlit suppers. Fire up the charcoal BBQ, take a soak in your very own hot tub, or simply bask in the peaceful surroundings. There’s also secure bike storage and private parking for two cars.
