This may be the most favorite hotel that I have ever visited. The staff were fabulous, the rooms clean and comfortable with a beautiful view, and from them we could hear the lovely sounds of gently lapping waves. We loved sitting on our balcony with a glass of wine, and soaking up the sounds and sights of our surroundings. The rooftop restaurant was excellent, and the breakfast buffet and setting was perfect. I would recommend paying the extra for a second story balcony, which separates you from the ground level with the people walking by. The location is perfect for exploring the local restaurants and shops. We loved the feeling that there were very few tourists, and had a wonderful time exploring the local specialties in various street side and marina based restaurants. We toured the island with a local guide and loved all of it, but loved Camara do Lobos the most. The only downside, and it is a small one, is that the locals seem to walk by in loud voices in the middle of the night, but it is brief. I wish we could have stayed longer, but very much hope to go back.
