I stayed at Park Central South Beach Jan 15–18 and paid approx. $1,600 for a “Signature Room” advertised as having an ocean view. I frequent Miami, and this hotel was not worth the price.
Check-in was unwelcoming. I was not greeted and was met with a dismissive attitude and off-putting facial expressions from the front desk receptionist. Notably, she was also Black, as am I, which made the interaction uncomfortable. I greeted her first. An unnecessary comment was made that my room was “paid in full” before explaining a $300 incidental hold. This was irrelevant and condescending. I was told the hold would be released days after checkout, yet $150 was taken immediately.
My room was not ready at the 4 PM check-in time and became available well after, requiring me to follow up. Only then was I informed the room was in a separate building, requiring me to roll luggage through a busy restaurant.
More concerning were safety issues: the key card reader casing was broken, and the security latch was damaged and off the hinges.
The room was not reflective of a $500+/night stay. There was no stocked minibar as advertised, only a wine cooler instead of a refrigerator, excessive noise, and nothing justifying a $300 incidental hold. The “ocean view” was largely obstructed by Ocean Drive and palm trees.
The balcony was the most decent feature, but overall this felt like a $150/night room sold at luxury pricing. I would not stay here again.
