6/10 OK

The room was eventually OK, although the place feels a little bit “1985” throughout, and not in an exciting Stranger Things kind of a way.
Having said that, breakfast was nice, and the staff at breakfast were really friendly and welcoming. I also ate in the hotel bar each evening, and the food (club sandwich) was tasty.
Check-in was less brilliant, though. I had to wait for a while, and was then served by a staff member (I think the Duty Manager) who barely spoke. I initially thought this was normal for the hotel, only to find that a younger (than me) single sex couple were greeted with great enthusiasm, laughs all round about the annual drag festival.
I was allocated a room which turned out to be the largely unmodernised room with disabled facilities. Not sure why, perhaps it was a combination of “save for Expedia” and “he’s in his 50s so not worth any effort”. I called reception to ask for another room, went down to pick up my new keycard, to be met with stony silence and a look that could freeze.
I realise that I’m not young, sexy, exciting and vivacious, but a bit more of a welcome at the end of a long day would be nice.
