”Clean, large room. Friendly staff helped to book outings and transportation. No A/C which I was worried about but did not need due to cooler nighttime temperatures. Excellent breakfast. We really enjoyed our large private patio. Most outstanding grounds, hidden from main road, flowers and plants everywhere. Easy walk into Santa Elena.”

”Although this hotel is a lower price point than hotels I had stayed at in Costa Rica in the past the service and facilities were excellent. However, the star of the hotel is Paco the resident doggy. Very friendly an greeted us when we returned from every outing. Also, contact the hotel in advance and they will arrange airport transportation and tours and excursions. Our favorites were horse back riding and the night anima tour. ”

”We visited Monteverde in the end of our vacation and it was definitely the right decision. Service was very polite and friendly. Rooms were clean and large, but cold, especially at nights. I think this was the best hotel for our purpose to visit the Monteverde forest area and there were also easy bus connections to Santa Elena. Food in the hotel restaurant was delicious!”

”We stayed 4 nights in Fonda Vela. Pros: staff, easy to organize activities via reception, restaurant, hotel surroundings and trail. Also close to reserve (15 min walk). Cons: the rooms were a bit outdated, as if they haven't touched them in 20 years or so? No aircon either, 1st night was very cold in the room. The pool area - the bar was never open, the water was cold and the games (pooltable, fussball etc.) were quite dirty. Also lots of birds nesting in the pool area roof... But hey, most...

”We stayed here two nights in July and enjoyed our stay. First of all, the customer service is superb! The lady in the reception was super friendly and had great knowledge of the trips and things to do in the area. She also arranged us very good transportation to the Nicaraguan border with few phone calls whereas the guy in the tourist information in the centre of Santa Elena clearly wasn't aware of the proper options. Cala Lodge is a bit out of the centre of Santa Elena, however, there are nice...

”Host Tracy was fantastic and speaks flawless English. She helped arrange a last-minute tour for us and clearly wants to be helpful. The “treehouse” was beautiful. Not much common sitting within the unit, but between the hammock and outdoor seating we were very comfortable. It was wonderful waking up in the treetops! A yummy breakfast is available for $10. ”
