A narrow canyon of Vltava where the river battled through a deep rocky valley and formed rapids called "Svatojánské proudy" (Midsummer or St. John's currents) has witnessed tramping and woodcraft movement since its very beginning. Small town, roughly 20 minutes drive from Prague with an amazing family brewery Berounsky Medved. Modern brewing history goes back to 1871 in the town of Beroun but ended in 1978. Over 20 years later, the Mayer family renewed the tradition by opening a brewery for the true beer lover. This isn't a fancy joint, it's a place for those who love good beer, good friends and good times. The brewery’s location might take most by surprise, as it is to be found in an abandoned industrial estate. Although the area has a slightly dubious feel to it, the brewery itself is bright, cheerful and family friendly. There is also a collection of old tanks outside, because why not? Twice a year is a larger potter and craft fair in the town of Beroun where you'll find the beer for sale on the square. Getting there: The town of Beroun is a pleasant train ride through a river basin with stunning landscapes and a castle or two. Trains depart from both Prague's main station and Prague Smichov station (reachable by the yellow metro line). The commuter trains (Os) take around 50 minutes while the fast train (R) is around 35 min. If you would like to stop at the famous Karlstejn castle on the way there or back, take the commuter train because the fast trains don't stop there. The Karlstejn stop is easy to tell because that's where everybody with a camera gets off. From there, Beron two more stops. Once at the train station, walk out the front door and turn left and follow the signs to the brewery. There are a few twists and turns, but walk into the courtyard of the industrial area and you are there! Huippunähtävyydet

1. Kaarlensilta

Kaarlensilta (Karlův Most) oli ainoa kunnollinen yhteys Prahan itä- ja länsipuolen välillä vuosisatojen ajan. Silta on ollut suosittu kulkuväylä aina rakentamisestansa saakka. Ajoneuvot sallittiin sillalla 1900-luvun alussa, mutta nykyään silta on vain kävelysiltana. Kaarlensilta on suosittu nähtävyys, jolta on upeat maisemat Vltava-joelle ja kaupungin vanhaan keskustaan.

2. Vanha kaupunginaukio

Vanhankaupungin aukio (Staroměstské náměstí) oli aikoinaan kukoistava Prahan keskus. Nykyäänkin se on yhä lähes aina täynnä ihmisiä, ja sen alueella sijaitsee useita Prahan tärkeitä nähtävyyksiä. Aukio on loistava paikka aloittaa Prahaan tutustuminen, sillä siellä saat ensikäsityksen kaupungin vaiheikkaasta historiasta. 3. Venceslauksen aukio

Venceslauksen aukio (Václavské náměstí) on Prahan Nové Měston (”uusi kaupunki”) kaupunginosan sydämessä sijaitseva 750 metriä pitkä puistokatu. Käy tällä aukiolla, jolle kokoontuu paljon paikallisia ja jonka varrella on useita moderneja ravintoloita ja myymälöitä. Aukiolta alkaa Prahan merkittävin ostosalue, ja iltaisin se on yksi kaupungin vilkkaimmista yöelämän keskuksista.

4. Prahan linna

Prahan linna (Pražský hrad) on kaupungin tunnetuin nähtävyys. Se on yksi maailman suurimmista linnoista ja maailmanperintökohde. Linnan historia on yli 1 100 vuoden pituinen, edustettuina on useita eri arkkitehtuurityylejä, ja linna on toiminut böömiläiskuninkaiden, roomalaisten hallitsijoiden ja Tšekkoslovakian presidenttien asumuksena. Nykyään muun muassa Tšekin eduskunta kokoontuu yhdessä linna-alueen rakennuksista.

5. Prahan astronominen kello

Tämä vanhan raatihuoneen seinään upotettu kello, Pražský orloj, on maailman vanhin yhä toimiva astronominen kello. Vuodelta 1410 peräisin oleva kello on pysähtynyt usein, ja sen koneisto on vaihdettu useita kertoja. Se on onneksi säästynyt tuhoilta, ja siihen on jopa vaihdettu symboliset numerot, joten kello ilmaisee yhä aikaa aukion keskellä. Ja mikä vieläkin hienompaa – se herää henkiin joka tunti!

6. Tšekin kansallismuseo

Tšekin kansallismuseo (Národní Muzeum) on joukko museoita, jotka esittelevät tšekkiläisen ja kansainvälisen kulttuurin eri osa-alueita. 7. Tanssiva talo

Mikään muu rakennus ei ole herättänyt yhtä kiivasta keskustelua kuin tämä vuosina 1992–1996 rakennettu kuuluisa tanssiva talo (Tančící dům) kaupungissa, joka on tunnettu historiallisesta arkkitehtuuristaan. Kaartuva B-kirjaimen muotoinen rakennus on valmistettu suurimmaksi osaksi lasista, ja se erottuu selvästi sen ympärillä olevista vanhoista rakennuksista. Vieraile tanssivassa talossa, jos haluat nähdä ainutlaatuista arkkitehtuuria, tai aterioi rakennuksessa sijaitsevassa suositussa ravintolassa.
