”We stayed at Derwent as a base for exploring Northumbria. The hotel is set within a large and beautiful green space. Very clean and modern interior. The restaurant (bar) served great comfort food at very reasonable prices. Recommend including the breakfast in the reservation - high quality english breakfast buffet to start each day. We will be returning for our next trip “up north”, hopefully in August. 5/5 stars! Loved it!”

”We stayed one night to see Bruce Springsteen in Sunderland. Didn’t get time to use the hotel facilities as we were running late but what we did see and experience was very good, clean and tidy. Friendly staff, great location, fantastic breakfast. Would definitely stay again and make use of all the facilities they have to offer.”

”Amazing hotel in an historic building which is beautifully maintained! It is an architectural treasure. It was built in the 19th century as the City Council Chambers and has fabulous stained glass, tilework and woodwork. The dining room is an architect's dream - originally the council chambers. Our room was so incredible, I could have stayed here for months. Restaurant was delicious and the staff in this hotel were very good. ”

”People there were just so friendly. The food was good, and the breakfasts simply stonking. Beautifully located opposite the church, and it was a delight to hear the bells being rung on the Sunday morning. I would have liked to have brought my dogs - and they are allowed in the bar - but not in the bedrooms, so i made other arrangements. The advertising needs to make this clearer. Do the bedroom windows open? I didnt quite have the strength to do it. ”

”Beautiful parkland and excellent room and facilities - we enjoyed the spa and gym too. The gym was well supplied with machines and weights. All the staff were friendly and helpful and catered for a number of special requests. A shame we were there on a Monday night when the Orangery restaurant was not open as we would like to have tried it. Would definitely recommend.”
