Half Round- A Quiet Mid-Century Modern Cabin

Unique mid-century modern "Half Round" cabin in the woods. Located in the iconic Coolfont Mountainside which consists of contemporary cabins on nearly 400 acres, and was founded as an amazing retreating community in 1969. Half Round has 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen. The open dining-living room area has soaring ceilings, 360-view fireplace and walls of glass looking out to the deck and woods beyond. There is no TV, but WiFi works well to stream shows to a device. The house is one level with ramp access to the front door and wrap-around deck, with seating and gas BBQ grill. The community in-ground heated pool and hot tub is open Memorial Day through Labor Day. (Year round indoor pool and hot tub available at nearby Coolfont Resort for $8pp/day.) Other community features include on-site hiking trails, tennis and basketball courts, rec field and tot-lot. The Berkeley Springs area of West Virginia is less than a two-hour drive from major metropolitan areas such as Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland. It is best known for its warm mineral springs and is famous for being the country’s first ‘spa’, frequented by Native Americans long before the first European settlers appeared. This part of West Virginia is rich in history and natural beauty, and draws thousands of visitors each year. Get ready to relax and make memories for a lifetime in this beautiful and cozy mid-century cabin.

This was our second stay at Half Round, and it won't be our last! We enjoyed the comfortable beds, mid-century modern decor and furniture and beautiful natural surroundings. Our family loved waking up in the morning, pulling open the curtains and taking in the view. We also read several of the architecture books on the bookshelf - a treat for the architecture student in our family! Nearby hikes and the town were a treat, as usual. Visited a few of our favorite shops, including the Fairfax Coffee House. Overall, Elissa (the property owner) was helpful and quick to respond to any questions. She makes the entire process easy! We appreciate the opportunity to enjoy this property and will definitely be back.

Perfect place for us to stay. Excellent communication with host. Close to Frederick, MD. Close to C&O and Western Maryland Rail bike trails. Close to Whitetail Ski Resort. Berkeley Springs is close by and has everything needed. Cabin was roomy with lots of space. Bedrooms were big. Kitchen had everything even a Keurig coffee maker. Clean bathrooms with everything needed. Check in was easy. Great place to stay in winter or summer. Check in was easy. Dog friendly for our miniature Australian Shepherd. He loved the cabin. Living room area is spacious. WIFI was outstanding for the entire stay. We had 3 tablets, laptop and 3 phones connected and never had any issues. Highly recommended for those who need a place to stay for bike trails, skiing or visiting Frederick, MD 45 minutes away. A

Beautiful architecture and perfect location!We were so close to Berkeley Springs and Cacapon State Park couldn’t ask for a better mix of design and convenience. The owner was very communicative and even let us know about the Apple Butter Festival. Would definitely recommend to friends and family!

Cabin (and area surrounding it) are absolutely beautiful! Elissa and Michael were great hosts (also, directions for getting to the property were clear and helpful)! Loved the mid century modern furniture and really enjoyed the fireplace. Bonus: beds were super comfortable and appreciated all of the smaller details (plenty of fluffy towels, recommendations for places in town, etc). Property was quiet, cozy, and super relaxing. Easy to get to town and the cabin had everything we were looking for!

Nice quiet property, owners were responsive when we had a concern. This property has no televisions or cable and no outside fire pit. For 250 per night it’s on the upper end compared to other similar properties that have more amenities near Berkeley springs.

We came for a nice quiet weekend and and it was great. I was looking forward to a nice cozy fire in the fireplace but the temperatures were too warm outside. There are a few close neighbors and not much traffic at all, just a little bit more than I would have liked. It was a bit difficult for my husband to sit in the chairs and get out of them (he's 72 and has back problems). The bed was comfortable. We had and enjoyable stay and can't wait to return!

A rating of 2 was given for check in process. It was very difficult contacting VRBO initially to get verification of reservations. Hosts completed that directly. Difficult again to contact and receive address and entrance code. Again, hosts had to intervene to have info provided. Location was wonderful, cabin clean and comfortable. Would recommend location but would caution use of VRBO.

Super relaxing spot - waking up and staring at the woods while drinking a cup of tea. Nice walking trails were there too. Also just a 5-10 minute drive to town. Little touches were great - stack of fluffy towels, kerig cups ready to go, etc.

July 4th Stay

Half Round was exactly what we were looking for to get away from the chaos and traffic of NOVA over the long holiday weekend. We spent as much time as possible on the shaded back porch enjoying the view of the woods, the sounds from the babbling brook and the cooler mountain air. The inside was just as comfortable and had everything we needed (and what we didn’t, a TV). Would absolutely come again.

Perfect getaway spot

My family and I had a wonderful long weekend stay at Half Round. The house was cozy and comfortable - and the domed ceiling in the living room full of windows was fantastic, even in the rain. The communal space is separated fromthe bedrooms with a door, which adds another level of quiet - particularly great for kids who nap or those who need to sleep through an animated game night. The wooded community is quiet and peaceful - and just secluded enough to truly feel remote. With an enjoyable neighborhood walking loop, nearby hiking paths, and an outdoor rec space with sports courts and a beautiful pool, it was the perfect balance for our young family and a wonderful mountain oasis. Morning coffee on the back deck, listening to the stream and watching the deer climb their way up the hill makes it feel like you never want to leave. But town is a quick and convenient 8-10min drive away, if you want to grab dinner or take a dip in the fresh mineral water springs. This house definitely tops our recommendation list and we hope to come back soon. Thanks!

Weekend Friend Trip

What a charming place for a trip with friends. We enjoyed walks, board games and relaxation. The owners were friendly and helpful. Beds were very comfortable and everything was perfect. Great weekend, would stay again

Cozy and fun!

A great house. Windows provide a panoramic view of the gorgeous woods. The funky little fireplace heats up the room nicely and makes for great atmosphere. The amenities are nothing fancy, (a slightly better grill or a brush to clean it would be a nice touch) but it delivers a great place to gather and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The owners let us know the table was broken. Once that gets replaced we will be back for a summer trip to the woods.

Nature mid century modern a perfect weekend getaway!

We had a wonderful stay at Half Round! The view out the back of the house was lovely, and we thoroughly enjoyed the design features throughout the space. We made good use of the ample books and board games available. The hiking and biking in the nearby state park are top-notch, and the shops on and off the town’s main street only added to the experience. This cabin has everything you need to create plenty of family memories.

Great place for a weekend get-a-way

Half Round is very lovely and very comfy! The fire place is so cool and we used it every evening and all day Sunday. The beds were great and it is so quiet there which added to the feeling of being away in the mountains. The view out the glass windows was beautiful. We took walks on the roads and trails and the quick access to the local brewery was nice for a lunch out. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking all the rest of the meals and I particularly liked having a dishwasher for clean up. Check in was easy, communication with the host always quick and the instructions for check out were very clear and quick to accomplish. We had everything we needed for our stay. We recommend!

Beautiful setting, great decor

Well-stocked and furnished with midcentury modern/Danish style furniture - set in a beautiful serene woodland. So much fun to stay in a house with interesting architecture. Convenient to the fun town of Berkeley Springs.

Great Weekend Retreat

Half-Round provided a wonderful quiet weekend retreat in a beautiful setting. Elissa was great in answering our many questions prior to arrival! We loved being so close to the TreeTops restaurant for several good dinners since the weather was frigid and snowy. One suggestion: if possible to install grab bars in the bathroom, handicapped guests would be safer while using the toilet and shower.
