”A nice, clean hotel with magnificent views. The overall look was a little bit outdated, but it didn't matter, because everything was clean and worked well. Staff was nice. We really liked having our tasty breakfast while enjoying the view. ”

”The Retreat is gorgeous. The views of the Volcano and Lake are amazing. The pescatarian menu is perfect for vegetarians and pescatarians. All three meals are served. We did not have meals included but very much enjoyed dinner and breakfast there. The pocket sized gathering places are charming - slider over looking lake, dining room and reception, the separate lounge area with tea and coffee looking into the jungle. The evening walk was fun. ”Lovely self sustaining eco resort in the midst of the forest. We loved the food, the coziness of the cabin, the yoga classes, and wandering around the property. The farm tour and the night tour were fun activities to do with a 4 year old. We did not like: occasional smell of sewage around the property, especially around the pools. Dated bathrooms in cabins - needs a refresh. Construction noise around the property. ”

”This was a great place! Hiking trails all around, lots of tours and group holes. They met us at reception with drinks!”

”Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Willing to help as necessary. Everything was within walking distance. We only had 1 day that, for us was a washout. The jungle helps with any noise from other rooms. Highly recommend the night walk, especially for kids. The Puma trail offers a bit of nature if you slow down and look. There are other tours available also. Go with a guide, they will point out thing you will miss.”

”Excellent hotel with excellent service. Hot springs area was amazing and much bigger than expected. We visited here in low season (May) and there were zero crowds in the hotel nor hot springs. If you go to this hotel, make sure you enjoy the hot springs at night time as well. ”

”When we arrived my wife and I we were welcomed by Jerry and Geraldine from the firs moment they makes us feel VIP . All of their staff share the same goal to make us feel important, and we were. We estayed for four nights, and our experience was 100% ++ satisfied. Hotel rooms, garden, food, location, and the river in the back was great 👍 We recommend this hotel 100%”

”We traveled to CR in late May, 2026, with our two boys (age 14/11). The property is lovely - clear views of the volcano (aside from the mist covering). Lots of birds to spot, & the grounds are well maintained. We stayed in their smallest room - two queen beds. The room was nice but basic. There is a small fridge/coffee pot/kettle & they supply coffee/tea. There is a hair dryer as well. The room is very humid, even with AC, but that is not the fault of the hotel. ”The view and the owner/hostess made our stay! The personal attention at breakfast was delightful. This feels more like renting a villa with a morning chef than like a hotel. There are a couple good restaurants at the bottom of the hill for dinner. The drive to La Fortuna is 30 minutes. Be aware there is no air conditioning. There are windows with screens on 3 sides of the villa so the breeze is nice. In the morning you’ll hear a beautiful symphony of birds. I would stay here again.”

”This hotel was great! The hot springs were wonderful and the staff were so friendly and helpful! Our room was very nice and clean- no problem with any bugs at all. The shower was wonderful- very hot and great water pressure. The free breakfast buffet was good, nothing special- the usual eggs, fruit, pastries and made to order omelets and waffles.
