The most lovely hotel - beautifully appointed from the furniture to the linens to the public spaces, The perfect location. Steps to the tram, the bus station at the end of the block. Absolutely loved this hotel! We stayed in a one bedroom with loft room. It had a full kitchen with a huge dining table, washer/dryer which was great and a huge bathroom. Service was excellent. Close to shopping and old town. Will definitely stay here again.

Unimaginable/uninvited staff appeared while we zzz
If you think it’s is alright to be woken up from bed by this hotel’s handyman “breaking in” and calling “housekeeping” standing right outside your bedroom then this hotel is for you early in the morning coz he said he wanted to check the shower for us. The fact that there’s no latch, no security chain, no lock whatsoever you can use to safeguard yourself from intruders or uninvited people is horrendous! It’s just utterly unfathomable and I would not ever come back unless the hotel install proper security regiments for their hotel guests. The only so called safety security is the combination code set by the hotel itself. Hence my experience, me woking up to horror (in my nightie) whilst my husband was still sound asleep.

This is an excellent hotel. It's a great location: close to Princes Street and the Royal Mile. If you plan on doing tours, it's roughly a 5 minute walk to the city hop on-hop off stops, 5 minutes to the bus station for those taking multi-day tours. The tram stop for the airport is literally outside the door. We also took the train to Glasgow for the day. Waverly is 5 minutes from the hotel. It's worth it to stay at The Grand.

Location, location, location
It would be impossible a better location. A few minutes to the old town and a few steps to central station and bus station, with a tram station just in front and a shopping mall on the back street. Lots of restaurants around and two supermarkets also. Having a full kitchen with laundry was great too.

Nice stay that was overshadowed by plumbing issues
Loved the property and our room. However, our toilet seemed to be having problems upon arrival and got progressively worse til it was completely backed up during our stay. We informed the front desk in the afternoon. They told us that they would fix it. When we came back hours later, our bathroom had dirt of some sort all over and our toilet was not fixed. We told the front desk and they told us that it could not be fixed til the next day. So we had no toilet to use for almost 24 hrs. We talked to the front desk about it several times and got no where. They did not offer any sort of discount or apology for the extreme inconvenience. Other than that, we loved the property.

The Directors suite is stunning, super clean with fabulous toiletries and equipment. Downsides - noisy DJ in landing outside bedroom wall on a Saturday, staff keep the security corridor door unsecured which was a bit unnerving. Mind the auto doors on the way in.

The property is great, however big thumb down for safety and communication: 1) When we checked in at the reception desk we got a key code to enter a room that was reserved for us. However, upon entering the room we realized that someone else is living there (suitcases lying open on the floor, personal items all over the place). We went back to the reception desk and they gave us a key code for a different room. Then the same thing happened: someone else was apparently living there as there were personal belongings and luggage lying in the room. 2) When we came back to the reception desk once again and asked what's happening, the administrator said that they were overbooked, which made no sense: I would've undestood if they said they don't have rooms available (although this would've been disappointing). However, the gave us the keys to someone else's rooms twice. 3) On our third attempt we finally checked into a free room, however this left us feeling unsafe, wondering if someone else will enter our room in the same manner as we did during check-in. 4) Later that day our code stopped working, so instead of reentering it into the system, hotel personnel just shown the emergency code to me that apparently can open other rooms too (I didn't check that obviously) 5) The entrance doors to the hotel are automatic and open outwards and it's very easy to be hit by them as you enter the hotel. I have seen an old woman being hit by the doors and having blood on her face because of that

I can assure you that this is not our standard that we operate in. We had a very unfortunate system failure which thankfully has been rectified later that night. I appreciate that the system lapse has made your stay very uncomfortable and for that I apologise.Each and every apartment has their own emergency code which is regenerated daily. This code is only shared with the occupants from that specific apartment, when the code given upon check in fails to work. This code can only open that apartment door as well as doors to all emergency staircases. I am so sorry that the process explained was not clear.I would also like to clarify that the injured lady suffered a completely unrelated accident outside the hotel premises, and we offered a safe space in the lobby where she waited for the emergency services to arrive.I do hope that we can welcome you back to Cheval The Edinburgh Grand to have the opportunity to give you the Cheval service that we are so proud of.Warmest Regards, Christine Mullen - Reception Supervisor

The first floor rooms don’t work. You are required to get the lift from reception to floor 2, then walk to the back of the hotel and get the lift down to floor 1 or use the stairs - the issue is the lift is the service lift for the kitchens and cleaning and so smell, is dirty and constantly being used by staff. It’s pretty unacceptable given the cost of the hotel.
