The hotel was extremely busy with back-to-back weddings, and most guest rooms appeared to be out of action due to these events, which was already disappointing. room, however, was particularly poor in condition. It was very dated, with an old wall-mounted hairdryer, cobwebs, and several insects including daddy long legs and moths. The carpet was faded and worn, leaving the room feeling tired and neglected.
For October, the large room was also uncomfortably cold, and as there was no controllable heating, staff could only provide a small portable heater, which was completely inadequate for a room of that size. The bed and pillows were hard and uncomfortable, making it difficult to get any rest.
Additionally, our room was located very close to the function areas, and both nights we were disturbed by loud noise from wedding guests shouting and music carrying late into the evening. This made it impossible to relax. It is not a hotel and spa where you can stay for the weekend to unwind — we ended up leaving the hotel on both evenings just to find some peace and quiet.
We were offered an upgrade to a more modern room for an additional £150, but having already spent nearly £600 on our stay, we did not feel we should have to pay more simply to be comfortable. No alternative ‘superior room’ was offered, only larger rooms at additional cost, which we did not want or need — we just wanted to be comfortable for the stay we had already paid for.
