![The plantation received its name because it was the location of Captain John Smith's "New Fort," built in 1609, located directly across the James River from the Jamestown colony. The fort was quickly abandoned due to dry rot and a rat infestation.[4] The same land was later given by Chief Powhatan to John Rolfe as a dowry for the hand of Pocahontas when Rolfe and Pocahontas married. Archaeological surveys of the property have revealed that a number of structures have existed on the property and the present, restored main house was built by Jacob Faulcon in 1751.[6]

Clean and comfy rooms. Not a fan of having to pay a resort fee when I don't use any of those amenities. There really needs to be an option to opt out of amenities so I'm not paying extra for things we're not using.

Very pleasant stay. They were very accommodating to our requests. The room was updated and in a great location. Sales pressure was not bad at all and it is a very lovely resort. Will stay again when weather gets warmer.

Wonderful home with so much to do!!! The girls loved the arcade room !!! Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay in the area!!! Wish it hadn’t been such a rainy week- would have loved to use the fire pit and make some smores !!! Great place and recommend it highly!!!!!

This home was immaculately clean and organized, with more than enough necessities for a pleasantly relaxing stay. The view was absolutely amazing, and the setting quiet and peaceful. The hosts were very helpful and communicative. Definitely would stay again.
