Ian at Reception was accommodating, friendly and helpful as this was our first stay in York. The room was really nice. We had very good service in the bar and in the dinning room. This hotel is a short walk to old York which was wonderful. I highly recommend this hotel.

We loved this hotel, lovely rooms, nice bar and restaurant, helpful and friendly staff, lovely garden. Only downside was that our room wasn't serviced and we had to ask for fresh towels, when we mentioned this at reception we were told that we should have requested this but the check-in receptionist omitted to tell us that. For a 4-star hotel you should get fresh towels and a serviced room as standard. But otherwise excellent.

The property was beautiful and the rooms were well appointed, but small. The staff was outstanding! So welcoming and accommodating. From the desk attendants to the bar staff, everyone was so nice. Breakfast was delicious. Would definitely stay again!

Loved the location so close to centre of York without being in the centre. Easy to park, friendly staff lovely rooms and cosy bar area with great choice of beers. First time stay bit we will return.

It’s a good find. My room was very modern and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and gave me good recommendations. Finally the outside garden/ beer garden was nice at night. Heating on most the tables, good drinks and food. Even rugs if you get really cold. It’s a great place away from home. 👍

Amazing front-of-house staff - very warm and welcoming with multiple suggestions to enjoying your time in York. Super walkable to "touristy" destinations - and very walkable from the train depending on home much luggage you're hauling. We struggled getting hot water in the shower - more of a room temp. But all in all, an absolutely beautiful property and fun, kitschy Churchill theme and decor - super cute.

I had a wonderful stay. The room is cozy and delightful and the restaurant was great. The Churchill staff from check in to food and bar service are truly helpful and affable.

I thought that this hotel represented excellent value for money. My room was lovely and beautifully decorated. The toiletries in the bathroom were very nice indeed. The tea and coffee making facilities were excellent. Good quality (Yorkshire) tea bags, and instead of the little tubes of very poor quality coffee, there were proper coffee bags, including a decaf option. A choice of white or brown sugar was available and I definitely appreciated the kitkats!.I will definitely visit again.

Superb and well maintained premises, exceptionally professional, kind, welcoming staff. Good selection of dining options and exquisite room and decor, only let down by the fact that the cold water tap on the bath was unfortunately faulty.

Great stay apart from the workman.
Our first impression of this hotel was spoilt by the noise of workmen near the reception. The receptionist could not hear us or visa versa, this was only until 4pm. The hotel's corridors were very narrow and made it very difficult with the workmen navigating their way with tools and materials. I didn't notice until we got home but the wing mirror of my car was broken - possibly by a work van that parked next to us for the 3 days we stayed. Annoying especially as we paid £15 a night for car parking. Thank goodness for the brilliant breakfast, comfortable room and nothing was too much for the staff.

From start to finish the stay was great. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Food was great. We had dinner and breakfast. Bar staff were great with my youngest and made us all feel welcome.

review of overnight stay
The only problem was that our room was noisy at night with the air conditioning/heating coming on and off and waking us up. I think we must have been near the boiler. I'd like to stay at the Churchill again as the staff were very helpful and it's in an excellent location, but I would need to know the room would be quieter at night.

Excellent city break hotel
Really quirky and homely feel. Was slightly surprised at the size of the room; thought it would be slightly bigger when I booked slightly bigger room. Staff are superb. Very informative and happy to help. The domes / pods to eat in are excellent. Close to the city centre with only 10min walk. Car park on site is the best priced in York and well worth it if you can get a space.

Stay in York every couple of weeks and had nanny to try the Churchill do some time, was so much better than where I had stayed before.

It was expensive for what is was, the room was so hot like a sauna. Not much air flow, we had to keep the door open and use a fan. The room was cool but just too hot. Booked for a family of three had to pay an extra for a bed, which i think should been included and parking is quiet expensive. Breakfast was ok again expensive for what it is.

Great place
Wanted to spend a few days away for Christmas with my wife, this hotel didn’t disappoint. The room was outstanding, managed to get parked also on the car park although it is small. Around five minutes walk to York Minster. Breakfast was simply outstanding and service even better, all staff helpful and friendly. I am a big fella so the bed was a little on the small side for me personally but really comfy.
