I'm new to the whole "air b&b" idea and, in theory, it seems like a good plan. In practice, however, I don't believe everyone is on the same page.
My friend & I traveled here to London on a redeye from Dulles. We arrived early in the morning; after too long of a time at the airport, we finally took a cab for the 2.9 miles from the airport to our place on Bath Road in Hayes (18 pounds!!) I checked my booking print-out & saw that check-in was not until 3pm--but it was only 9:15am. So, I called the number on the listing and explained the situation. He allowed us to check in 2 hours early, at 1pm, & charged me an extra 10 pounds, which I paid cash, & am suspicious that he likely pocketed it upon receipt. But, I am grateful that he made the accommodation so we no longer had to nap on our luggage in the front yard.
The house itself is adequate, but the information provided on the listing is rather misleading. Allow me to elaborate:
The listing stated we would be near a tube; we are not. We are near bus stops and across from "Purple Parking" at the airport. The entire first day could've been spent in downtown London, but we didn't have a place to store our luggage until check-in, hence the napping on it in the front yard. The yard is not welcoming, and even our taxi driver was put off by it. A little gardening could work wonders. Beds are comfy, the water temp is inconsistent, and there is no a/c or fans, & some of the windows & doors are nailed shut. We would die in a fire.
