The cabin is nice and spacious, fully stocked with everything you need. The antiques are cool to see. There is no AC so the top floor bedrooms were too hot to use, during July heat. We spent most of our time in the basement which was a nice spot and stayed cool. Communication with the owner was prompt and friendly, she provided contacts for rentals close by etc. There is no fire pit or outdoor “yard” to really use, combined with a large wasps nest on a trailer next door the yard was mostly unusable for relaxing.
As for the area, here are some things I wish I knew. There is nothing to do for half hour in either direction. Lots of driving to find things to do. Melfort is half hour away and has a nice wave pool, Nipawin is 45 minutes away and we meant to visit the Regional Park but was too windy, they do have an outdoor water park with a water slide. We visited the Nipawin Dam and has a nice little shore for fishing with nice sand. Tobin Lake Resort was about an hour away and has a boat rental and mini golf etc. We rented a boat but our stay was too windy and they wouldn’t allow boats out on the water. The closest store/gas etc was in Choiceland and was about 25 minutes away. They have a cafe, saloon and a few little stores as well. We visited Trishas Signs and designs, really cute little store with giftware and ice cream, she hooked us up with a tour of the local museum which was cute and informative about the area. The Older gentleman at the Sundown saloon was very unwelcoming. Food was decent and well priced but probably would not return.
The cabin overall was great and would probably be even better in the winter if your a skier. The landscapes are beautiful in the area with lots of wildlife.
