I stayed at Holiday Inn Şişli in Istanbul and overall my experience was fairly good. The hotel is comfortable, well located, and most of the staff were polite and professional.
However, two experiences seriously affected my impression.
First, the in-room kettle had a strong chlorine or chemical smell. When I reported it, a staff member cleaned it using a pink chemical spray and said this was their normal method. After that, the smell became even stronger. This made me uncomfortable because guests may drink water that has direct contact with cleaning chemicals. Eventually the kettle was replaced, but I had already used the first one and felt uneasy about what I had consumed. Cleanliness should never compromise guest health.
The second issue was with the doorman. When I arrived, he did not assist me while I was getting out of the taxi or entering the revolving door. I struggled with my luggage and even got stuck inside the door because it was too small. On multiple occasions, I noticed the doorman standing on his phone instead of helping guests. There was no greeting, no smile, and no sense of hospitality. For a hotel presented as a high-standard property, this felt unprofessional and unwelcoming.
The hotel itself has good potential, but these details matter. For these reasons, I cannot give a high rating despite the otherwise decent stay. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and improves both safety and service quality.
