Good food but few flaws
Pool towels were washed but the were not fully clean. Similar kind of experience was in bathroom; everything was pretty new but still the paint in the roof was breaking and it kind of looked icky. That’s normal for lower price and quality hotel but these minor things showed that Opal Sands is not 5 star, barely 4 star hotel. Food was extremely good and so was the service attitude by staff.

There is currently a massive construction project on their way to add a second building that will connect with a bridge to the Opal Sands. Contractors and noise definitely impact of vacation and I’ve never stayed in a hotel in any country that did not offer a discount on the rate when they were under construction at their hotel. The fact that we were charged full price during this was extremely disappointing.

Beautiful property. Lots of noise and construction and very busy once you leave the property, but Opal is an oasis.

Everything at the hotel is exceptionally clean. Food at the pool and Sandbar is very good. The Gulf is right in front of the pool, but beach access is down 2 flights of stairs and on the side of the hotel.

Beautiful resort. Great little perks: morning snacks, afternoon snacks, ice cream afternoons, pool/beach towels, extra pillows etc. The only downside that we had NO idea about was the construction. They are expanding the opal resort across the street and during the day the construction was a little loud. However, it did not ruin the beautiful views of the gulf coast waters, nor did it bother us being at the beach in the cabanas. I would definitely recommend this resort and the location.

We reserved a King room gulf front but when we arrived they gave us a room with two queen beds without explaining that they over booked. After seeing what they gave us, I inquired why we didn’t get what we reserved and paid for and they didn’t give a good answer but offered a partial refund and breakfast. Not a good experience.

Property and staff were great. Just read fine print on extra costs. They charge $42 per day to park your car, $35 for resort fees, and then mega taxes. So it is about an extra $160 per day on top of the price you pay for hotel. It was a busy time and our cost per night was $669. That was a bit of a splurge for us at that price but after all said an done we were at $729
