When we arrived at the apartment it was colder inside than outside. We turned on the space radiator and the heating element in the fireplace but that was simply not enough. The kitchen was freezing and the bathroom was located off the kitchen, not near the bedrooms. In fact they were at opposite ends of the apartment, which for us was a problem because we get up in the middle of the night to use the toilet. Antoine came by to fix the TV, but after 20 minutes we decided that this was not the place for us. We offered to pay 50% (of our 6 day stay)however, that suggestion was not accepted by the owner. She said she would return 50% if the apartment was rented by someone else during that time. Of course, that was not going to happen. She did say that she would reimburse us 10%. Another problem with the apartment was the lighting. Several light bulbs were out in the main living area. Everyone was very nice to us. This apartment is probably fine in the summer months, but in the winter MUCH to cold. I would guess that it was in the 40's in the apartment, as it was in the 50's outside. And inside was colder than outside. Another radiator in the kitchen was not going to solve the problem. There was a "shaft" going through the middle of the apartment and the interior walls were all stone, thus retaining the cold. We ended up going to a nearby hotel. We would have been very uncomfortable at the apartment. Again, everyone was nice about this, we have a difference of opinion about the habitability of the apartment in the winter (January is when we were there). I did tell them that I would not be able to give them a favorable rating. So, when you rent in Malta, ask if the apartment has a heating system and ask the location of the bathroom in relationship to the bathrooms!
